5 Great Excuses for a Holiday in 2017

By January 9, 2017Holiday

If treating yourself to a weekend break at some point during the next 12 months isn’t already on your to-do list, then we’ve got 5 great excuses that might help you give yourself permission for a little R&R. While we all make, resolutions focussed on working hard, getting hard and kicking bad habits, it’s a lot rarer to look at ways to treat ourselves – however, the key to a successful year is finding a balance between work and rest…

You’ve Got a Big Project Coming Up

This might seem like the worst possible reason for taking a weekend away: when you’ve got a big project coming up at work it’s time to knuckle down and start preparing, right? The fact is that research has shown we perform significantly better at work after a break, so recharging your brain cells is probably the best preparation you can give yourself.

You Want to Get Fit

Getting away from the day-to-day routine of commuting to work, sitting at your desk or standing behind a checkout and then slumping in front of the TV is a great opportunity to get active. After all, when you’re staying in a new area it’s great to get out explore – which usually means a lot of long walks taking in the sights. You can also use the opportunity to try out some extreme sports and, once you get back home, you may even find that you’ve caught the exercise bug.

You’ve Got Old Friends to Catch Up With

Good friends that you haven’t seen for a while are great reason to get away for a while; you can visit their town for a few nights and either set up camp in the spare bedroom or stay at a nearby hotel. Either way, it’s a great excuse to spend some time reminiscing with some friend while also taking some time for yourself.

You’re Struggling to Get into a Good Sleeping Pattern

It’s impossible to boost your productivity if you can’t settle into a good sleeping routine, and a holiday is the perfect chance to catch up on those missing hours and start getting your 8 hours a night in. Like our first excuse, this is great because once you get back home it will actually allow you to work harder and smarter – meaning that you can enjoy your break without any of the guilt.

You Aren’t Spending Enough Quality Time with Your Family

Life got you rushed off your feet? If you feel like you’re spending more time taking care of chores, going to work and running errands than actually sitting down with your family then it’s probably time to get away, even if it’s just for a long weekend. Making memories with your loved ones is an essential part of life, and we all owe it to ourselves to make sure that it’s something we find time for in 2017!

If you want to take a spontaneous break, then looking at destinations in the UK rather than abroad can be a great way to cut down on both the cost and the hassle. For a short break in the Lake District, you can check the availability of our hotel here; if you’re looking elsewhere in the country we’re sure you’ll be able to find a similarly warm and welcoming space to take the load off for a while.
