Thinking of paying a visit to our Hawkshead hotel in the next couple of months? If so, you might be looking for some autumnal events to check out while you’re here – and there’s certainly a lot going on! Most of these events are just a short car journey away, so there’s no excuse for not seeing the best that the Lake District has to offer on your autumn trip.

Ghoulish Scavenger Hunt – Brockhole

Taking place at the Lake District Visitor Centre in Brockhole, this is set to be a family friendly event with prizes to be won – and a great chance to crunch through some golden leaves as you explore the area. Hunts will be taking place throughout the month, on October the 22nd, 29th and 30th.

No need to book, so just grab your boots and head out for a day of ghoul hunting.

Witches and Wizards Week – Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Starting on the 24th of October, the Witches and Wizards week is another chance to indulge in something a little spooky ahead of Halloween. Attractions will include a haunted carriage, another ghoul trail and spooky events at the Lakeside aquarium – with the chance to ride the Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway and take in all of the sights.

Best of all, kids who come in fancy dress get a free ride as well as free entry into the aquarium when accompanied by a paying adult.

Historic Hawkshead Guided Walk – Hawkshead

Something a little bit closer to the King’s Arms Hotel, the Historic Hawkshead walk gives you the chance to learn a little of the background behind this truly stunning village. We have a fascinating history here in Hawkshead – from medieval monks to some iconic literary authors – making this a thoroughly recommended tour, especially for those of you who’ve never visited us before.

The walk will set off from the LDNPA carpark at 10.30, with no booking required and no admission charge.

Halloween at World of Beatrix Potter – Bowness-on-Windermere

You can probably guess what the World of Beatrix Potter is all about, and with an enchanting Peter Rabbit garden to explore it’s an excellent way to explore her timeless tales with your children. On Sunday October 30th, the day before Halloween, kids who dress up go free when joined by a paying adult. There will also be Halloween themed crafts and face-painting available for your family to enjoy.

For a little bit of extra magic, you can book afternoon tea and a Victorian magic lantern show online!

Beech Hill Hotel Guy Fawkes Night Party – Windermere

Want to do something special on Guy Fawkes Night this year? If fireworks over Lake Windermere, a delicious three course dinner and specialist fire performers sound like the perfect treat for a chilly autumn evening then you’ll probably enjoy the Beech Hill Hotel’s bonfire night party. This event is currently available to book online, at a cost of £45 per person (including food!).

Ambleside Christmas Lights – Ambleside

Before autumn ends, it’s time to start getting into the Christmas spirit, and Ambleside’s Christmas Lights event on Saturday November 19th looks like the perfect way to get things started.

With fireworks and a Christmas market as well as a BBQ and entertainment going on throughout the day, everything is in place to make this a great day out. The true spectacle, though, will be Santa’s sleigh ride through town, switching on the Christmas lights and bringing a beautiful lantern parade along behind him.

Well, it seems that there’s something going on almost every week here in the Lake District – so we hope you’ve seen some events that catch your eye! There are also ongoing farmer’s markets across the area, with Christmas markets starting up around mid-November. So, whether you want some evening’s entertainment or something spooky for the kids, you can be sure that there’s never a dull moment when you pay a trip to the King’s Arms in Hawkshead.
