Traditional Bonfire Night Celebrations!

By November 3, 2016 What's On No Comments

What does the idea of Guy Fawkes night conjure up for you? Standing with your family by the fire, warming your hands and wrapping your scarf up a little tighter? Or perhaps you love enjoying a smoky barbequed burger, a cup of hot chocolate and a toffee apple. Last but not least, there’s the main spectacle of the fireworks – incredibly exciting for the kids and, if we’re honest, the adults too.

Whichever of these bonfire night traditions is most important to you, you’ll be delighted by the Hawkshead bonfire night – a classic British celebration set in one of the country’s most picturesque. As the community comes together, we count ourselves very lucky to have a front row view for the spectacular display of lights. Of course, visitors to the village are always more than welcome, and it’s always nice to welcome those who’ve come from a little further afield.

If you’re thinking of showing up to see what all the fuss is about and warm your boots, here are the key details to be aware of:

Where? Hawkshead Recreation Field.

When? 5th November. Bonfire Lit at 6, Firework Display at 6.30.

Refreshments, including barbeque, available throughout the night.

Donations welcome on the gate.

Want to make an evening of it? Well, the Kings Arms bar and restaurant will be open, so if you’d like a substantial dinner, a few nibbles or a drink to wash down the festivities you’ll be more than welcome to join us. Our menu also caters to kids, so you can make it a family occasion. There’s nothing better than a traditional village celebration, so we really hope to see a lot of you there!

There are also a lot more upcoming events and activities for you to look forward to, helping Hawkshead to earn its reputation as one of the most interesting villages in the area. This includes the annual Christmas fair as well as many other festive events across the area to help you get in the Christmas spirit. It’s also a great base for exploring the rest of the Lake District, with many other beautiful villages just a stone’s throw away.

So, whether you’re enjoying fireworks at home, or plan to come and make an evening of it with us here in Hawkshead, we hope that you have an excellent night. Just remember to stay safe, and enjoy the show!
